SMT Patch Processing: Some Materials Used Often

SMT materials are essential to the quality and productivity in SMT. They are also a fundamental part of
SMT. SMT processing materials must be selected according to the process and production requirements when
designing SMT processing. The materials used in SMT processing include flux pastes,adhesives and other patch and welding materials. They also includeflux, cleaners and heat-converting materials.
(1) Welding Materials and flux paste
The key structural material in surface assembly is welding materials. In different application
scenarios, welding materials come in different types. These materials are used to join the metal
surfaces of objects that need to be welded, and to produce spot welding. Reflow welding is done using
flux paste. It’s a type of welding material that can be used to fix SMC/SMD.
(2) Flux
Flux is a very important material for surface assembly. It is one of many factors that affect the
quality of the welding. It is used in many welding methods and has a primary function of assisting the
welding process.
(3) Adhesive
Surface assembly uses adhesive as a bonding agent. In the wave-welding process, the electronic device
patch is usually pre-fixed on the PCB using adhesive. Even if reflow weld is used to assemble SMD on the
PCB from both sides, adhesive is usually applied in the middle solder layer pattern of the PCB to
improve fixation and prevent SMDs from falling and moving during assembly.
(4) Cleaner
Cleaning the SMA waste after surface assembly is done with cleaner. Cleaning is an essential part of
surface patch processing under the current conditions. Organic solvent cleaning is most effective.
Surface mounting is based on SMT processing materials. Materials used in assembly processes are
different depending on the assembly processes. Sometimes, in the same assembly procedure, the materials
used will be different due to the different processes that follow or the different assembly methods.
