How Can You Use a Heatgun Safely for Rework and Repair?

What Is a Heat Gun?
What is a heatgun? Hot air rework? It’s easy. To remove or reposition an integrated circuit, you
simply heat the pins at the same moment. Hot air stations can do the job better than a traditional
welding iron.
A rework station has a simple design. Its main function is to supply air to the spraygun. The coil
inside the spray gun reaches high temperatures during operation, and heats air as it passes.
Most heat guns have a large nozzle of about 1 cm diameter. The nozzle is mounted at the end of the gun
to limit the path through which air can enter. Airflow can be increased by reducing the size the nozzle.
You can create a hot and sharp airflow this way. This airflow can be used to heat up a particular area
of the board and melt the pins. It also allows you to melt several pin connections simultaneously.
Let’s look at an example of a multi-pin SMD (such as a LM1117 variable Voltage Regulator in a
SOT-223 Package). Imagine that the component has been damaged by reverse voltage, or for other reasons.
It needs to be replaced.
The IC should be removed completely from the PCB. People often believe that different sized components
need different sized nozzles. In reality, however, we install a simple round nozzle and don’t change
it while using the device. The air will then heat up a greater area of the PCB.
You can use the nozzle to spray the PCB if the area is smaller than 1 square inch. 425 degrees
Fahrenheit).
If the component is loose, use tweezers and gently nudge it. Continue heating if not. Keep the poking
tool away from the PCB so that it doesn’t block airflow. The IC should come loose after 5-10
seconds. You can then pick it up and move it quickly to a hot PCB.
After removing the IC from the PCB, it should be allowed to cool. The pads should then be cleaned
carefully with new welding.

You can easily install Orinew Technology SMT by welding well and cleaning the pins.
